The GET is a laboratory for fundamental research and applied more than 165 permanent staff (about 250 people with the students, post-docs, personal under fixed-term contracts, etc.). Our areas of expertise are those of Geosciences and Environmental Sciences built goshawks of researchers from 5 different statuses:

  • CNRS researchers
  • IRD researchers
  • Faculty of the University Paul Sabatier (Toulouse III)
  • Physicists Observatories (CNAP )
  • Researchers CNES.

This multi-membership makes an ideal cocktail to scan the entire spectrum of our disciplines with access to rare sites, a lot of data, means of observation and experimentation quality and multiple. Besides the mission of research in the strict sense of CNRS researchers, support to developing countries or emerging countries of the South for researchers IRD, initial and continuing training for teachers and researchers, observation and service tasks for physicists observatories and CNES personnel is the complementarity of these different statutes has developed 8 thematic research that are conducted in this laboratory. These research areas are also based on our analytical park experimentation and measurement, our international joint laboratories, our excellence in geology, geochemistry, isotopic, metallogenic, petrology, mineralogy, etc. The size of the laboratory is a force and is a weight on the national and international level, which allows it to be in the big think tanks that build calls to national and international projects. It is the same locally where RTRAs the COMUE Toulouse Midi-Pyrenees, the University Paul Sabatier, will modify the classic contours of research and laboratories. We have already begun this strategic positioning through the excellence of our research and our researchers, but we must continue in this direction: to strengthen our position and including representation from major international programs and policy research institutions (including at the European level). The young person of the laboratory requires a significant investment to achieve these strategic objectives. This is perfectly primed with teaching both at local and national level (participation in the establishment of the ENAG in Orleans, Master Erasmus Mondus Clays of Poitiers). We support our priority education courses which are full and which place their students. A very important mission for the rest GET training and IATOS ITA staff, without neglecting those researchers and faculty. These courses are necessities to keep the leadership in some areas, but mostly they allow our technicians very significant progress in their careers.
